- 7g dried fast action yeast
- 100ml milk, lukewarm
- 250g strawberries, halved
That is all the ingredients you need to make the delicious strawberry crumble buns, not many ingredients but it is still enough to give these buns a delicious, powerful taste and makes them full of amazing flavour. Now, onto the easy method to make the buns.
Strawberry crumble buns- method!
Start off by melting the 70g of butter and let it cool down on a pot stand. Sift 300g flour into a bowl, add the eggs, 75g sugar and the yeast and mix everything with a spoon. Once you have done this, slowly but surely add in the lukewarm milk and cooled butter. Mix until all ingredients are well combined into a very soft, sticky dough. Then, cover the bowl over with a clean cloth and put it in a warm place to rise for 40 to 60 minutes, roughly until it is doubled in height and volume.
To make the crumble, combine all the remaining flour with all the remaining sugar and chilled butter. Rub the butter into the flour until you have a breadcrumb like texture. Once you have done this, place it in the fridge to chill.
When the dough has risen, divide it into six portions, squashing it down slightly and then shape each into a ball on a floured worksurface – the dough may still be sticky, so dust it with flour and work quickly. Flatten the balls gently with your hand so that they look like buns. Put on a baking tray lined with baking parchment.
Divide all of the strawberries between the buns, you can cut them if you need to heat the oven up to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Bake the buns for 25 mins until puffed and cooked. Cool and then dust with icing sugar, if you like.
And they are ready to serve! Enjoy with a class of ice juice on a hot summer day, with whipped cream and berries on side!
