Healthy eating tip one!

Citrus fruits are an amazing thing to eat when trying to be healthy. We have all heard the basic, eat fruit and veg, tips for being healthy, but have we ever actually considered why we get told this? Or what fruits we should be eating? Well, tip one, is to eat more citrus fruits!

Why should we eat more citrus fruits? Citrus fruits possess many compounds that can help keep your heart healthy. Their soluble fibre and flavonoids may help increase healthy HDL cholesterol and lower toxic LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. The fruits may reduce high blood pressure, another risk factor for heart sickness. What types of fruit are citrus fruits? Here is a list of some;

Healthy eating tip 2!

We’ve all heard of the so-called “devil” carbs, right? We have all been told that it helps to stay off them. Well, I’m going to tell you everything you need to know, and why this isn’t necessarily true.

Carbohydrates, or carbs, are sugar molecules. Along with proteins and fats, carbohydrates are one of the 3 most important nutrients found in foods and drinks. Your body breaks down carbohydrates into glucose. Glucose, or blood sugar, is the major source of power for your body’s cells, tissues, and organs. Though it’s the type and quantity of the carbs you eat, not carbohydrates themselves, that cause weight gain.

So in summary, carbs contain nutrients that help fuel our body and keep us healthy, so we cannot cut them off fully, but we do need to limit ourselves on how often we eat carbs because they can gain weight.

We should avoid carbs like…

  • Soft Pretzel. While delicious, the soft pretzel is a nutrition-poor source of carbohydrates
  • Processed Cereal
  • Canned Fruit
  • Doughnuts.
  • Soda.
  • Potato
  • Corn Chips.
  • Gummy Candy.
  • French Fries

No alcohol! If you like a drink, I know this may sound hard but try and have a break from alcohol. Alcohol is one of the key things you need to watch when trying to be healthy, but many people also find it one of the hardest things to limit themselves on.

One of the questions I’m sure you are thinking right now is, why is alcohol actually bad for you? Well, High blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, liver disease, and digestive problems can all come from alcohol, it can also weaken your immune system.

Healthy eating tip 4!

This relates slightly to my last tip, but that tip deserved its own section. another tip you should listen to is to drink less fizzy juice and more water!

Similar to the fruit tips, we have all heard how important water is. We should roughly drink around three litres a day, but maybe less maybe more depending on your person. Fizzy juice has many dietary problems, even the “diet” interpretation of your favourite drink won’t be great for you. Fizzy drinks are not good for a person’s health because it contains lots of sugar. Drinking too many fizzy drinks may lead to weight gain, diabetes, and cardiovascular conditions.

so why should we drink water instead? Well, here is a list of reasons why we should drink more water each day;

  • carrying nutrients and oxygen to your cells.
  • flushing bacteria from your bladder.
  • aiding digestion.
  • preventing constipation.
  • normalizing blood pressure.
  • cushioning joints.
  • shielding organs and tissues.
  • handling body temperature

So overall, drinking too much water is much better for you than alcohol or fizzy drinks. Energy drinks work the same, as “great” as they seem, for keeping you awake after a long day at work, they too come with extreme health consequences and you need to watch your intake on these.

I cannot stress enough how important protein is! If you don’t follow any specific diet such as vegetarian or vegan, please don’t cut down on your meat intake because it’s too “fatty and unhealthy”, especially with chicken or fish.

If you go to the gym, protein is even more important as it turns into muscle and you can get special supplements for gym work and protein, for example, protein powder. However today I’m just talking about proteins that most people will come across at least one point in their day. Why do we need protein?

Proteins are large, complicated molecules that play many vital roles in the body. They do most of the work in cells and are required for the structure, function, and rules of the body’s tissues and organs.

In conclusion, you can do many more things that I haven’t gone into full detail about, for example, fatty food, sugary foods, lots of dairy products and many more. You should also keep your daily intake of vegetables and fruit regularly since they are really good for you.

Even though I’m talking about eating healthy, I’m going to touch quickly on exercise. If you want to change your health and lifestyle completely, eating good isn’t going to cut it and you may want to try exercising as well. Evening walks, a trip to the gym once or twice a week, anything from minor to major would be fine.

I hope you decide to listen to me and this helps to improve your healthy lifestyle. If you are going to do this, make sure to eat at least three meals a day, and drink a good few glasses of water, as this will help very much.

Remember that health isn’t just a quick fix, it’s a commitment.
